Ministries Missions

Mission and Outreach in SGAC

In our local church, we define mission as the way we engage in the cross-cultural aspect of our participation in God's mission. Our mission efforts include taking God's message of reconciliation across cultural, linguistic, and geographical barriers to the peoples who have not yet had an opportunity to hear the life-giving message of Christ.

We align our mission efforts with the global ministries of the C&MA in Canada and adhere to their vision for mission: Jesus motivates us to go, to live on mission, aiming to be a Christ-centred, Spirit-empowered, mission-focused movement. Our churches send people to live on mission as International Workers (IW) among least-reached people groups all around the world. To reach these peoples, we need to send workers who will learn language, culture and who will incarnate the gospel in the host culture. Thus, we prioritize identifying and sending people for long-term mission engagement in these environments.

We distinguish between mission and outreach. Outreach is reaching out to those who are like us culturally and linguistically. Mission involves crossing cultural and linguistic barriers.

Mission and SGAC's Core Values

Mission understanding and engagement is an integral part of the discipleship process for followers of Christ enabling them To Know Jesus, To Know One Another and To Make Jesus Known.

One way believers get To Know Jesus is by shifting their focus from themselves to God and His heart for the nations. Mission engagement helps God’s people develop an outward perspective and focus. Mission engagement and involvement enable the development of very close bonds between participants as they work together on the mission project. Team members also have the opportunity to build close relationships with their hosts as they get To Know One Another. Making Jesus Known is what mission is all about. The focus is on those who have not yet had an opportunity to hear about Christ.
